Simulating light

Does anyone have tips on how to simulate light below a shelf?

draw a shape with the rectangle tool or the close bezier, depending on the type of light fixture; remove the outline, reduce the transparency until you get the effect you want. Here I've used gradient fill to blend the light from top to bottom. At the ceiling you can see "cones" of light using the same technique
