  • How To's ~ Using Product Specification Drawings in your Kitchen Elevations

If you've listened to the webinar recordings, you know one adage I strongly adhere to is "Don't reinvent the wheel." When you are specifying an appliance or fixture that is not in one of your modules, look to the product specifications for a line drawing (sometimes a pdf file you have to download). It's fine to use an actual photo of the range or fridge or whatever, but only if it's a straight-on view. That's where the product specs page comes in handy - when the photo is shot at an angle.

Use your screen capture tool (Snipping Tool) to save the image and then import it into Studio. Erase the background (right click>Properties>Fill and slide the transparency bar until the background disappears). Then create a shape similar to the appliance using one of the drawing tools (a simply rectangle usually works) and fill with the appropriate color or gradient fill. Place it behind the imported image, group, and adjust size if necessary using Change Dimensions to keep the correct proportions. See attached for an example.
