  • How To's ~ Post a Question

So many times Lounge members read your threads and want to help but there is vital information missing so you get no response. Or, members provide help but you forget to add that one important factor which renders the advice useless.

Here is a checklist to go over before you post. Try to provide as much information in your initial message as possible that you think is critical to understanding the problem. And please be concise in your Thread Title. Use specific wording such as Bay Window Valance Proportions or Drapery Length for Two Story Windows, not Tearing My Hair Out or the ever-popular Help. This will also make it easier for members to search threads for topics in the future. Forum moderators may rephrase your title to make it more searchable.

    1. Window or door dimensions width by length, space above and below; ceiling height; distance from adjoining walls or other windows/doors; type of window or door – style and other considerations such as casement or doors open in, frequently used sliders, skylight, double or triple window, etc.; how much space available for inside mount
    2. Proposed mounting position on wall or casing; inside or outside mount; any installation difficulties
    3. Any other treatments planned or existing, i.e., blinds, shades, etc.
    4. Where did the treatment idea come from? Provide a URL or book/magazine reference; upload a photo or drawing to the CHF Photo Gallery and add the link to your thread
    5. Draperies: proposed heading style; operable or stationary; stackback room; tied-back?
    6. Proposed linings: lining, interlining (type), contrast (any HOA restrictions?)
    7. Proposed trim: banding – width and type (inset or not); fringe or other decorative trimmings
    8. Proposed hardware: type and dimensions - 2.5" diameter pole & rings, board mount, 4" medallions, motorized, etc.
    9. How many layers, i.e., blinds, sheers, draperies, cornice
    10. Top treatment: long point/short point; panels underneath? Contrast lined or insert?

    12. What other factors come into play: glare on TV, light control, energy savings, pets, children, elderly, flame retardance considerations, over bathtub, over staircase, can’t reach control device, treatment visible from upper story, needs to work with existing [fill in the blank], bad view, artwork or equipment that can’t be moved, husband refuses to cover molding, etc.
    13. Is client trying to save money on yardage, hardware, linings, whatever

Attach a photo of the room or the .mms file of the rendering you've done so that we can have a visual.
